Our facility was constructed over a ten-year period mostly by Vietnam veterans and their famillies, utilizing a considerable amount of donated materials and volunteer labor. GEF now occupies some 11,000 square feet, encompassing a quarter-million cubic feet of treatment and recovery space, yet was constructed for less than $75,000. The facility includes offices, medical rooms, ICU's, recovery cages, and six flight rooms for exercise. Flight rooms range in size from 24 feet long up to our eagle room, which measures 160 feet from perch to perch. Although we are able to care for injured wild birds of every species, from hummingbirds to sandhill cranes, we are geared specifically towards birds of prey and owls.

We have a network of volunteers, including several veterinarians and trained subpermitted rehabilitators, stretching from Central MOntana across Idaho and into Central Washington, an area about the size of Colorado. Injured birds are sent to our facility for rahbilitation from states such as Alakska, Arizona, California, Idaho, New Mexico, South Dakota, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.
